Pool safety

Calm, practical guidance for parents.

No fear-mongering, no jargon. Just the things we have learned from years of installing pool fences in family homes across Dubai.

Active supervision is everything

The single most important layer of pool safety is an adult whose only job is to watch the water. Phones down, eyes up. With young children, stay within arm's reach.

A proper barrier between child and water

A pool fence is not about looking the part. It is a physical barrier that buys time when supervision lapses, as it inevitably does. Whether mesh or glass, the fence should fully isolate the pool from the rest of the garden.

Self-closing, self-latching gates

A gate is only as good as the latch. Ours close and latch on their own at a height children cannot reach, every single time. Never prop a pool gate open.

Party safety ratios

When there are extra children and grown-ups around the pool, it is easy to assume someone else is watching. Nominate a single 'water watcher' for set 15-minute periods and rotate.

Teach swimming early

Lessons do not replace a fence, but they do build confidence and basic water safety. Most Dubai communities have excellent local instructors.

After the swim

Remove floats and toys from the water once swimming is done. They can attract young children back to the pool when no one is looking.
